You’re in Class 12, exams are approaching, and your mobile phone is flooded with websites telling you a different tale. Website A puts the total cost of IIM Indore IPM at ₹38 lakh. Website B says ₹45 lakh. Website C screams “₹82 lakh package” and your senior whispers, “That’s one individual’s package, not the entire batch.”
Sound familiar? It isn’t your fault. There truly isn’t much consolidation in the information. This guide brings together the Top IPMAT Colleges in India 2027: which IIMs you can target, what the true cost of five years is, how to interpret placement figures without getting misled, and how to analyze return on investment in terms both you and your parents can understand.
One small point before you dive in. The figures below are taken from official admission documents, institute placement records, and credible education platforms. Sometimes, these numbers don’t align, so whenever sources differ, we have used a range. Please check the information on the college website before parting with any money.
Firstly, what exactly is meant by “IPMAT College”?
IPMAT is often seen as just one term when in fact there are three entrance examinations that go by the name of IPMAT:
- The IPMAT Indore is organized by IIM Indore, while the same score is accepted by IIM Ranchi, IIM Amritsar and IIM Shillong as well, meaning that the same entrance examination can get you into multiple colleges.
- The IPMAT Rohtak is the test organized for admission to IPM conducted by IIM Rohtak.
- The JIPMAT is organized by NTA for IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya.
There is absolutely no problem in appearing for all three in the same year; these examinations take place on different dates and many applicants take all three of them since it increases their chances of getting into an IIM.
As far as timing goes, let us consider the pattern of last year. The IPMAT Indore took place on May 4, IPMAT Rohtak on May 10 and JIPMAT on June 7 in 2026. For 2027, dates have not been released yet but based on previous trends, IIM Indore will release its notification during the first week of January, IIM Rohtak during late January or early February
IPMAT Colleges List 2027: Seats, Exams and Eligibility at a Glance
| Institute | Entrance exam | Approx. seats | Interview? | Maths needed in Class 12? |
| IIM Indore | IPMAT Indore | 150 | Yes | No |
| IIM Rohtak | IPMAT Rohtak | 198 | Yes | No |
| IIM Ranchi | IPMAT Indore | 120 | Yes | No |
| IIM Shillong | IPMAT Indore | 60 | Yes | Yes (Classes 11 and 12) |
| IIM Amritsar | IPMAT Indore | 120 | Yes | Yes |
| IIM Jammu | JIPMAT | 140 | No | No |
| IIM Bodh Gaya | JIPMAT | 120 | No | No |
There are two important points. Firstly, only two of the IIMs – IIM Amritsar and IIM Shillong – require Mathematics. It means that your options would be fewer if you are from Commerce/Humanities background and don’t have Mathematics. It is always better to know it beforehand rather than in April. Secondly, IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya don’t have a personal interview whereas the rest of them have it.
Speaking about marks, most IIMs expect 60% marks in Class 10th and Class 12th (at least 55% for SC/ST/PwD students). IIM Shillong expects a higher percentage of 70% in Class 10 and Class 12 (65% for reserved category).
Apart from the IIMs, a few other institutes accept IPMAT scores. The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) Kakinada conducts a five-year IPM in business analytics and international business and requires Mathematics in Class 12. Other private institutes such as TAPMI, Krea University, Nirma University and NICMAR also accept IPMAT Indore scores.
Top IPM Colleges in India: Fees and Placements Side by Side
| Institute | Approx. 5-year fee | Reported average package | Fee ÷ average package |
| IIM Indore | ₹38–45 lakh | ₹27.27 lakh (2026, combined batch) | 1.4–1.7 |
| IIM Rohtak | ₹38–40 lakh | ₹20.03 lakh (2024–26 batch) | 1.9–2.0 |
| IIM Ranchi | ₹33–35 lakh | ₹19.2 lakh | 1.7–1.8 |
| IIM Amritsar | ₹39 lakh | ₹19 lakh | 2.1 |
| IIM Jammu | ₹33–34 lakh | ₹16 lakh | 2.1 |
| IIM Bodh Gaya | ₹28–33 lakh | ₹13–16 lakh | 1.8–2.5 |
| IIM Shillong | ₹37–38 lakh | No IPM batch has graduated yet | Too early to say |
Fees are approximate five-year figures for domestic students. Placement figures are for the MBA/PGP batch that IPM students join in Years 4 and 5. The last column is our own simple arithmetic, not an official measure.
The pattern is clear. Indore is strongest on paper, Rohtak and Ranchi sit in a solid middle band, and the newer or smaller programmes are still building their record. But numbers only tell part of the story, so let’s look at each college properly.
Best IPMAT Colleges in India: A Closer Look at Each Option
IIM Indore: The Original and Still the Benchmark
IIM Indore started the IPM idea in 2011, and every aspirant still measures other colleges against it. It takes roughly 150 students, and you earn a BA in Foundations of Management after three years and an MBA after five.
The 2026 placement report is worth reading carefully. The batch had 586 students (492 from the two-year MBA and 94 from the dual degree). The average CTC was ₹27.27 lakh, the median ₹25 lakh and the highest ₹82.54 lakh, with more than 240 recruiters taking part. The previous year’s average was ₹29.57 lakh, so the average dipped a little while the top offer went up.
Selection is 65% IPMAT score and 35% personal interview, and you must clear every section’s cutoff separately. The exam runs for 120 minutes with three 40-minute sections: Quantitative Ability (short answer), Quantitative Ability (MCQ) and Verbal Ability. Out of 360 marks, Verbal alone carries 180, which is why strong readers get a real edge.
Best for: students who are comfortable with both Maths and English and want the strongest brand and recruiter base.
IIM Rohtak: The Strong Second Option
IIM Rohtak began its IPM in 2019 and has the biggest intake among IPM colleges, around 198 seats. It runs its own test, which includes Logical Reasoning, followed by a personal interview. Complete three years with a minimum CGPA of 5.0 and you can exit with a BBA.
The MBA batch of 2024–26 reported an average package of ₹20.03 lakh, a median of ₹18 lakh and 100% placement. Fees are in the same range as Indore, roughly ₹38–40 lakh over five years.
Best for: students who want a second IIM chance with a different paper pattern. Since the exam is separate, it works well as another attempt in the same season.
IIM Ranchi: One Exam, No Extra Test
IIM Ranchi started its IPM in 2021 and takes around 120 students. It accepts your IPMAT Indore score, so there’s no second entrance test. You do need to apply separately on its portal and go through a personal interview, but there’s no written ability test.
IPM students join the regular MBA batch in Year 4, and that batch has reported an average package of about ₹19 lakh with a highest offer near ₹50 lakh. The five-year fee is estimated at ₹33–35 lakh, a little lighter than Indore or Rohtak.
Best for: students who want one strong IPMAT Indore score to work across several colleges.
IIM Shillong: New, Selective and Maths-Heavy
IIM Shillong is the newest name here, with roughly 60 seats. It uses IPMAT Indore scores, needs Maths in Classes 11 and 12, and asks for 70% in Classes 10 and 12. Admission depends on your score and a personal interview.
Its flagship MBA has strong numbers (an average of around ₹26 lakh), but the IPM itself has no graduating batch yet. That doesn’t make it a poor choice. It just means you’re betting on the institute’s MBA brand rather than on IPM-specific proof.
Best for: Maths-strong students who are fine with a newer programme.
IIM Amritsar: For Maths Students With a Finance Streak
IIM Amritsar’s IPM started in 2022. Mathematics in Class 12 is compulsory, and the three-year exit degree is a BSQFE (quantitative finance and economics) rather than a BBA. Admission is through IPMAT Indore plus an interview. The estimated five-year cost is about ₹39 lakh, and reported placements hover around ₹19 lakh on average.
Best for: students who enjoy numbers and see themselves in finance or analytics roles.
IIM Jammu: Merit-Based, No Interview
IIM Jammu admits through JIPMAT alone. There’s no group discussion, written test or interview. The merit list combines your JIPMAT percentile with Class 10 and 12 marks. Reported average packages are around ₹16 lakh, and the five-year fee is estimated at ₹33–34 lakh. The programme also offers exit points after Year 1, 2 or 3.
Best for: students who prefer a clean test-plus-marks route and don’t want interview pressure.
IIM Bodh Gaya: The Most Affordable IIM Route
IIM Bodh Gaya also admits through JIPMAT with no interview, and it draws academic mentorship from IIM Calcutta. At roughly ₹28–33 lakh for five years, it’s usually the lightest on the wallet among IIM IPMs. Reported placement averages range from about ₹13 to ₹16 lakh depending on the year and source.
Best for: students for whom fees matter a lot and who want an IIM degree without an interview round.
IPMAT Colleges Fees 2027: What Five Years Really Cost
Fee confusion is one of the first things students bring up with us, so let’s clear it.
How the fee is built. At every IIM on this list, the first three years carry a fixed annual fee. Years 4 and 5 follow whatever the MBA fee is at that time. That’s why different websites show different totals. Some use the old MBA fee, some use the new one, and some include deposits while others don’t.
IIM Indore as an example. The first three years cost around ₹6 lakh a year for domestic students. Add the MBA-level fee for the last two years and portals show anywhere between ₹38 lakh and ₹45 lakh. At Rohtak, the first three years run about ₹6.2–6.8 lakh a year.
Costs beyond tuition. Keep a separate list for these:
- Application fees: around ₹4,130 for General at IIM Indore, ₹4,937 at IIM Rohtak and ₹2,200 for General/OBC in JIPMAT.
- An offer-acceptance or commitment amount, usually ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh, which is later adjusted against your first-term fee.
- Caution deposits, mess advances, insurance and alumni fees.
- Travel and personal expenses.
Help is available. Every IIM on this list runs some form of need-based financial assistance, and Indore’s scheme is commonly linked to a family income below ₹12 lakh a year. Collateral-free education loans of up to ₹40 lakh are also available under schemes such as the SBI Scholar Loan and PM-Vidyalaxmi.
Try this: ask each college for its official fee circular, add up all five years yourself including hostel and mess, and make a one-page comparison. It saves a lot of arguments at home.
IPMAT Colleges Placements: How to Read the Numbers Like a Mentor
Placement numbers are where students get carried away. A few habits will protect you.
Look at the median, not just the highest. IIM Indore’s top package in 2026 was ₹82.54 lakh, but the median was ₹25 lakh. The highest offer is roughly three times the average. It’s real, but it belongs to a handful of students.
Remember that IPM isn’t always reported separately. At most IIMs, IPM students are placed together with the MBA batch, and Indore’s report gives one set of figures for the whole group. Many of your MBA batchmates arrive with some work experience, which can lift the average. So read these numbers as a sign of what the institute’s brand can do, not a promise for your own offer.
Don’t expect a straight line upward. Indore’s average moved from ₹29.57 lakh in 2025 to ₹27.27 lakh in 2026, even as the highest offer rose. Hiring follows the market. When you compare colleges, look at three or four years of data, not one season.
For newer IIMs, study the recruiter list. Where IPM-specific data is thin, check who visits campus, how many companies come, and how many students get pre-placement offers. At Indore, for example, PPOs made up roughly 27% of the 2026 batch.
Look at roles, not just pay. Consulting, financial services, sales and marketing, product, analytics and general management are the usual domains. Ask yourself which of these genuinely interests you, because the next five years should feel interesting, not just profitable.
IPMAT Colleges ROI: A Simple Way to Compare
ROI sounds heavy, but a simple version works well. Divide the total five-year fee by the average package. The answer tells you roughly how many years of first-year gross salary it takes to equal what you spent.
Take two examples from the table above. Indore: ₹40 lakh ÷ ₹27 lakh is about 1.5. Jammu: ₹33 lakh ÷ ₹16 lakh is about 2.1. Both can make sense, but one clearly pays itself back faster.
As a rough guide, a ratio under 2 feels comfortable, 2 to 3 is manageable with planning, and above 3 deserves a hard second look. That’s a rule of thumb, not a law.
One caution: CTC is not take-home. It includes variable pay and bonuses, and tax will take a share. If you plan to repay a loan, the real payback period will be longer than the ratio suggests. Build that into your plan from the start.
The ROI That Doesn’t Show Up in the Ratio
- No CAT gamble. You enter an IIM MBA straight from Class 12, without sitting for CAT.
- A way out. Every IIM here lets you exit after three years with a bachelor’s degree if your plans change.
- Time and network. Five years with the same faculty, alumni and recruiters means more internships and more chances to be noticed.
- The risk is real too. You’re choosing management at 17 or 18. If you’re not sure, talk to current IPM students before you commit, and ask them what they wish they had known.
IIM IPM Admission 2027: Eligibility, Process and Timeline
Here’s the short version, using IIM Indore as the reference. Always read each institute’s own brochure, because small details differ.
Eligibility: Born on or after August 1, 2007. At least 60% in Class 10 and Class 12 (55% for SC/ST/PwD). Class 12 passed or appearing in 2027.
The usual process:
- Register for your exam(s) on iimidr.ac.in, iimrohtak.ac.in or the NTA’s JIPMAT website.
- If you want IIM Ranchi, Amritsar or Shillong, apply separately on their portals using your IPMAT Indore application details.
- Write the test and clear the sectional cutoffs.
- Attend the interview (not needed for IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya).
- Check the merit list, pay the acceptance amount and complete document verification.
Two details deserve extra attention. At Indore, the final merit is 65% IPMAT and 35% interview, so a good interview can rescue a modest test score. Also, cutoffs move with paper difficulty. The General-category QA MCQ cutoff at Indore reportedly fell from 35 in 2024 to 28 in 2025 and 27 in 2026. Don’t chase last year’s number. Aim for a comfortable cushion above it.
Some IIMs also add small weightage for gender diversity or Class 10 and 12 marks, so read the admission policy document line by line.
IPMAT Colleges After 12th: How to Build a Smart Shortlist
Here’s a simple way to think about it.
- Dream: IIM Indore. Highest brand pull, toughest competition.
- Strong targets: IIM Rohtak and IIM Ranchi. Solid recruiters, good numbers.
- Fit-based choices: IIM Amritsar and Shillong if you have Maths and love quant. IIM Jammu and Bodh Gaya if you want no interview and a lighter fee.
A few strategies that work well:
- Use all three exams. One bad day shouldn’t decide your future. Rohtak and JIPMAT give you separate chances.
- Respect Verbal. At IPMAT Indore, Verbal carries half of the marks. Daily reading and vocabulary in context pay off more than last-minute cramming.
- Practise short-answer Maths separately. There are no options to guess from, so accuracy matters more than speed tricks.
- Protect your board marks. They affect eligibility everywhere and count in the merit list at colleges like IIM Jammu.
- Start interview practice early. Explaining your choices clearly, in simple words, is a skill that takes months to build.
- Keep a backup. CUET and good BBA options are worth having, so a bad exam day never leaves you without a plan.
Six Mistakes We See Every Year
- Chasing the highest package. Look at the median and the ratio instead.
- Ignoring sectional cutoffs. A high total won’t save you if one section falls short.
- Relying on a single exam. Two or three attempts mean far less pressure.
- Skipping the fee fine print. Years 4 and 5 can change.
- Treating boards and IPMAT as separate battles. Plan both in one calendar.
- Starting mocks late. Mocks aren’t just practice, they show you your patterns. What we keep telling students in class is simple: the score matters less than what you learn from each mistake.
A Realistic Timeline From Now to May 2027
- Now to December: Build the base. Read something long every day, revise arithmetic, algebra and number systems, and start untimed sectional practice.
- January to February: Watch for the official notifications and register early. Move to timed topic tests and begin tracking your errors in a notebook.
- March to April: Boards come first, but keep a light daily routine, even one section a day. Once boards are over, shift to full-length mocks.
- Final 3 to 4 weeks: One mock every two to three days, followed by serious analysis. Fix weak topics, not strong ones.
- After the exam: Interview preparation begins immediately, not after the result.
Quick FAQs

Yes. They’re separate exams on different dates, and there’s no rule against attempting all three.
Is Maths compulsory?
Only IIM Amritsar and IIM Shillong among the IIMs. Others accept students from any stream.
Which is the best IPMAT college?
On brand and placements, IIM Indore leads. But the best college for you depends on your score, budget and comfort with interviews.

Not yet. Based on earlier years, expect IIM Indore around early January and IIM Rohtak around late January to early February 2027.
Final Thoughts: Choose With Numbers, Commit With Confidence
The top IPMAT colleges are all good places to begin a management career. What separates a smart choice from a rushed one is how clearly you’ve looked at fees, placements and fit before you decide.
So take one evening this week. Make a simple sheet with the colleges, their exams, five-year fees, average packages and your honest comfort level with each. Then work backwards: which exams do you need to write, and what score do you need in each section?
You don’t need to have everything figured out today. You just need a plan and the discipline to follow it. If you’d like a mentor to look at that plan with you, whether it’s choosing exams, building a study routine or preparing for the interview round, TCM Education is always happy to talk. Start with your questions, and we’ll help you take it from there.
Wish you all the very best for IPMAT 2027.
